FO Friday: Gary's Cowl

This week I designed a cowl with spiffy buttons. I made it for my friend Gary who goes to Berkeley, so I figured he needed a little something to keep the old windpipe warm from the nippy weather up there.

I failed to take proper pictures of all the angles/ different ways the cowl can be worn, so instead I'll just present you with these silly pictures and hope they give you a good chuckle.

"Ah-derpy-derp."

One of my favorite construction elements in knitted pieces are cables- cozy, braidy, chunky cables! You can kind of see the big cable that runs around the length of the cowl in the two pictures above (I promise I will knit another one of these and take better, not rushed pictures!). Here's a closer look:

Mmm, cables :)

Since this cowl has buttons I figured I could wear it sort of like a little cape if I unbuttoned one of the buttons:

I think it gives more of a drapey, feminine look to it this way, don't you think?
However, if you are male, like Gary is, you can use both buttons and relish in the fact that you permeate a grand amount of masculinity with your fancy buttoned cowl ;D

That's all for now folks, check back later for a pattern and updated photos! Tootles :)

"Jazmine, wake up! You have things to knit!"

FO: Stripey Cushies for Mama

Hi there :)
Boy do i have some serious yarn porn to show you!
FEAST THY EYES:

I custom made these cushions to match some living room rugs for my dear mother. I am pleased to say that she was happily surprised and immediately plopped them onto their permanent couch-home! I may whip up a pattern for these sometime soon.. and by soon I mean when I actually feel like it :D Ah-derpy-derp.

And as always, here I am being a cheeseball in these cushie pictures:
"Peek-a-boo! My name is Jazmine and I like cushies!"

Hugging the crap out of these so that my mama can feel the love. *SmotherSmother

"These cushies can do anything, watch me play guitar with them!" *ChuckleChuckle

I love my mother and making these for her was the least I could do to show her how I appreciate her so. She is an intelligent, graceful, and kind woman. I will always look upon her with a twinkle in my eyes because she is the perfect mom for me. She has done an immaculate job at being exactly who i need at every phase of my life. She is my best friend and lifelong female companion. Every moment I spend with her is filled with laughter and heartfelt personal connection. She has shown me unconditional love always. She is so full of life and she has a truly invincible spirit. She may not think so extravagantly of herself because she is so humble, but she is my role model- the perfect symbol of beauty, inner youth, dignity, and selflessness. Plus I just love the way she sweetly calls me her "araƱita tejedora".

Te amo mami <3

Yarny Tune 7/2

This week's Yarny Tune is "5 Years Time" by Noah and the Whale. To listen, simply bring your eyes to the bottom right corner of your screen and press play! That's where all future Yarny Tunes will appear, all songs handpicked by yours truly! :)
(And no, the songs themselves aren't really "yarny", but i thought I could pick a song every week or so and also post about my works in progress, yarny inspiration, etc.)
If anyone has any recommendations for future Yarny Tunes don't be shy! Leave me a comment below or send me an E-mail :)

Works In Progress..
Here's the granny baby blanket i prattled about in my last post. It's almost all joined up! Just one more strip to go..
I keep getting really anxious to finish it already, but then I turn it around..

Just look at all those pesky ends that still need weaving in! -__-
I've been working on it in my jazz history class, as it keeps me warm and awake in that cold and sleepy classroom. Every time i look up from my crochet to my surroundings, i mentally chuckle to myself at the sight of my classmates falling asleep from so much dreamy jazz music being played. Haha, suckers! I don't fall asleep because my hands are busy with knitting and crochet <3

Jazmine Garland
Get it? As in Judy Garland? Except It's my name on a garland. At least soon it will be. For now it's just "J". (I plopped Ben in there so you could have some size perception ;) )
Sigh. It seems i have fallen into deep, hopeless love with crochet. (Cue tiny violin.)

I'm also halfway done with my crochet teddy. I haven't figured out how to do the legs quite the way I had wanted to do them. Hence, I present you with (temporarily) Frankenstein Teddy:

He is missing an ear, and he may not have legs or a face yet, but already i see traces of a lovely personality in him.
Here he is pondering the meaning of life:
He also plays a mean game of hide-and-seek..
I think he'll be dashing once he's all finished and sewed up :)

Don't forget to keep your peepers peeled for another giveaway, coming soon!
Tootles! :)
